The 13 Best Bamboo Sheet Sets, According to Lab Testing
By Jamie Weissman and Kathleen Felton
Whether you’re a hot sleeper or you live in a warm climate, the blankets and sheets you make your bed with can make all the difference in how comfortable you are while you rest. Though there are many different types of sheets to consider, bamboo sheets are ideal for hot sleepers or those who live in warmer climates.
“There is a lot to love about bamboo,” says Saana Baker, a textile expert with 25 years of experience based in San Francisco. “It has a beautiful, soft and silky hand, it’s totally biodegradable, cool to the touch, and it has a nice luster.”
To find the best bamboo sheets, we conducted a blind test at our testing lab in Des Moines, Iowa. We used a predetermined methodology to evaluate each set in six categories: colorfastness, quality, breathability, fit, cooling properties, and durability. The final rating was determined by averaging each pick’s scores across categories. We also consulted Baker for additional insight.

Why You Should Get It
- We emphasized the soft feel of the sheets and noted that they felt high quality.
For a sheet set that’s made with the environment in mind, consider Cariloha’s Classic Bamboo Sheet Set. The sheets scored highly for quality, texture, and value, making them some of the best bamboo sheets on the market.
The bamboo viscose set, which is offered in six sizes and five colors, includes a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, and pillowcases. Overall, we gave the set a perfect score for quality and texture, noting that it felt soft and silky. They did find that there were some slightly loose threads at the seams; however, they didn’t note any issues after washing the sheets.
When it came to breathability, we found that although the sheets started cool, they got warmer within five minutes and made their feet sweaty, so they’re not ideal for warm sleepers or those in warmer climates.
Another perk that makes these some of the best bamboo sheets is Cariloha’s commitment to sustainability. In addition to being Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX certified, the sheet set was made with bamboo that’s grown at the brand’s sustainably-run farm without any pesticides, making the bamboo organic.

Our Testing Process
To find the best bamboo sheets, we conducted a blind test at our testing lab in Des Moines, Iowa. There, we put a variety of bamboo sheet sets to the test, each of which had its label blocked so we wouldn’t know the brand and price before rating them. Each sheet set had at least two testers evaluating them: one before washing and one after.
We used a predetermined methodology to evaluate each set in five categories: quality, texture, breathability, durability, and value. The final rating was determined by averaging each pick’s scores across categories.
What to Know About Bamboo Sheets Before Shopping
Material
In general, bamboo sheets will be made with bamboo rayon (bamboo viscose) or bamboo lyocell. Both rayon, which is a more common option, and lyocell offer the traditional silky, smooth feel that bamboo sheets are known for. Although there are no lyocell options on this list, it’s worth noting that the process to make the fabric uses fewer synthesized materials than rayon, so it’s a more environmentally-friendly option to consider.
Mattress Depth
When choosing the best bamboo sheets for your bedroom, your mattress depth is a key detail to consider, as fitted sheets may not fit every size. In general, a fitted sheet can fit a mattress up to 16 inches deep. However, if you have a thicker mattress or have added additional height with a mattress topper, you’ll want to look into picks with deeper pockets that can fit an 18-inch mattress. It’s also worth keeping in mind that if you have a standard-size mattress, you’ll want to avoid deep-pocket options as they may fit looser on your mattress.
Certifications
When it comes to the best bamboo sheets, the most common certification you’ll find is the Standard 100 by OEKO TEX. If a product has this label, it means that it’s been tested by a third-party resource, who confirmed it hasn’t been treated with any substances the institution deems harmful.
While textile certifications don’t necessarily mean better-quality sheets, Baker prioritizes an OEKO TEX seal more on bamboo than some other types of fabrics. “Since the sheets are biodegradable, if they are also carrying an OEKO TEX certification they are a very good environmental choice,” she explains.
