You spend nearly a third of your life in bed, but do you know much, if anything, about the bed sheets you’re sleeping in?
Questioning whether or not you purchased the right set of sheets happens all too often. Questions like is it the right color? What thread count and brand is best for me? How long will they last? Etc.
Everyone has their own taste and opinions, but certain factors don’t necessarily contribute to your getting a better night’s sleep. So, next time you’re in the market for new bed sheets, remember this list of debunked bed-sheet myths.
Higher thread count doesn’t mean better quality
The higher the number, the more luxurious, right? Think again. Determining a sheets thread count is found by the number of threads that are woven into one square inch of fabric, which is usually around 400.
Material is a game changer
The feel and temperature depend on the type of material used. Some bed sheets are softer than others, while others can trap heat or keep you cool – all of which can determine the quality of sleep you’re getting.
If you tend to sleep warm and experience night sweats, you should get a set of sheets with moisture-wicking properties, or something that regulates body temperature. The best material for you depends on your personal preferences.
Wash your sheets once a week
When you spend so much of your life asleep, you’re also spending that same amount of time entangled in your sheets. It may not be visible but dead skin cells and skin oils build up on fabric. So, just like the clothes you wear every day, your bed sheets need to be washed regularly.
Replace sheets about every two years
All fabrics are going to experience some wear and tear as time goes on, it’s just part of the deal. It might be a little expensive, so try replacing your pillowcases first to give you a fresher feel as you lay your head down at night.
Everyone deserves a good night’s sleep, so before you buy the first set of bed sheets you see, consider this list of myths and do your research. You deserve bed sheets that live up to your expectations.
