When I think about bamboo, I think of a large wood like plant, primarily used as a building material and even food for Pandas. Until recently, I would have never considered its use as a fabric, but why not? Could Bamboo Really be the New Cotton?
According to the Cariloha description, the sheets feel softer than 1,000 thread count Egyptian cotton, making them the softest bedding on the plant. Let me tell you, these are not just incredibly soft sheets, but they are notably cool as well. In fact, bamboo is actually 3 degrees cooler than cotton making these sheets perfect for the extra warm Florida nights we have here. I’m one of those people constantly waking up to flip my pillow to the “cooler” side allowing me to sleep better. With my Cariloha sheet set, I don’t wake as often, and I certainly am not flipping my pillow as often – I love how these pillowcases feel against my face!
Naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic, bamboo wicks the moisture away, unlike moisture-absorbing cotton. This is one reason bamboo is also great at helping prevent skin irritation, allergies and odors! And for you “green” lovers, did I mention bamboo is one of the most sustainable resources on the planet?
Soft, Cool, Clean and Green
I think I’ve been spoiled with these sheets and have now added bamboo to the top of my list of luxurious fabrics. Not only can your feel the difference in these 100% Viscose from Bamboo sheets, but you can visually see the difference, too. They almost look like silk without that slippery feel.
The wide pockets make the set perfect for plush pillow tops or for those, like me, with a mattress pad. I have a hard time fitting sheets since the addition of our mattress topper. The Cariloha sheets went on with a little extra room to spare.
Maintenance is simple as well. Simply machine wash in cold water without bleach or fabric softener. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly. I did notice they seem to wrinkle easier than my cotton sheets (as you’ll note in the photos,) so if you feel it’s necessary you can warm iron.
