Cariloha Friday! and a solemn salute to our brave military Veterans on Sunday. Growing up in the United States in the ’80s and ’90s, I think I could have invested more time honoring and serving the men and women in my life who served so faithfully in the armed forces. One of my earliest memories of feeling gratitude for a Veteran’s service and life was at the funeral of my grandfather, where he received a 7-gun salute followed by my grandmother receiving a military-folded American flag. I heard several stories about my grandpa that day, and all of them caused me to reflect on the many sacrifices that have been made on my behalf. Those memories and stories have stayed with me throughout me life even until today, and I believe they’ve shaped me into a better person. If you feel the same way about someone or a group of someones, be sure to honor them with a hug, a salute or a commitment to live valiantly as they have.
As you venture out this weekend, remember to get your Cariloha style on, letting it inspire your unique self to do something helpful for the Red Cross or Feeding America charities, who are working around the clock to rescue those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Read a book with your children or with a niece, nephew or grandchild (today), then, enjoy an episode of Sesame Street and forget me not (tomorrow), next, remember your Veterans and pay your respects (Sunday), finally, warm up with some chicken soup and order in some pizza (Monday). Happy Veterans Day Weekend!
However you choose to approach your weekend, make it a memorable time and don’t forget to wrap up in your Cariloha bamboo-soft clothing, sheets or towels every day.
