5 Last-Minute SEO Tips For E-commerce Stores To Boost Holiday Sales
Even though we’re well into the holiday shopping season, there are still some important things you can do to boost your visibility in the search engines, and positively impact your store’s revenue before December 24.
Many online retailers know that the months of October through December can be the busiest time of the year.
In fact, according to research from Adobe, 2016 Cyber Monday sales totaled $3.45 billion, which is up 12% year over year.
That’s a new e-commerce record.
If you’re looking for ways to boost your online store’s holiday sales, here are 5 tasks you can execute this week to help connect with more customers.
1 Create a holiday gift guide
Everyone could use some inspiration this time of year.
That’s why a holiday gift guide is the perfect resource for those who are struggling to think of what to buy their friends or family.
Bamboo clothing retailer Cariloha organizes gift ideas for either him, her or the home, and uses large, eye-catching images of the products to grab the attention of website visitors.
2 Make sure your offline information is accurate
Not every online shopper will end up completing their transaction on a website.
Data from Google shows that 3 out of every 4 people who find helpful local information in the search results are more likely to visit the stores.
That also means that one in four shoppers say they would avoid a nearby store if the local information isn’t accurate.
If you do have a brick and mortar location, see if the store’s information is correct with a quick search in Google.
Go to maps.google.com and search your store’s name.
If the listing displays, check to see if the pin is in the correct location.
Now check to see if the store name, address and phone number are correct, and that the store’s hours are displayed.
Also make sure the website URL is displayed in the listing, and that there are photos of the interior and exterior of the store.
If something in the listing needs editing, log into your Google My Business profile and make the changes.
3 Freshen your meta descriptions
Not only do meta descriptions display in organic search results, but they’re often used as description text for Facebook posts, Twitter cards and Pinterest posts.
Use calls-to-action to encourage clicks, and highlight specific value propositions such as free shipping or gift wrapping.
Best practice is to use 160 characters or less, including spaces.
If you have a lot of products with meta descriptions you wish to rewrite, you can use a template, and then fill in the details.
For example:
Shop [PRODUCT NAME] at [URL.com] – FREE Shipping. Read [PRODUCT NAME] product reviews, and select your size and color here.
