Cariloha opened its newest store this week in the Carnival Cruise Line-owned port of Mahogany Bay in Roatan, Honduras. The new store is approximately 700 square feet and is the only retail store in Honduras that sells exclusively clothing, bedding, accessories and bath goods that are made from eco-friendly bamboo.
Store supervisor, Sheena Pinet, and General Manager, Pedro Murillo, will be overseeing both the Cariloha store and its sister brand store, Del Sol. New store owner, Panchito Morales, who lives in Cozumel, Mexico, is also the owner of Del Sol Grand Turk, Del Sol Roatan, and very shortly Del Sol and Cariloha Antigua, which open later this month.
Cariloha is located near the cruise dock ramp where all cruise guests enter and exit the shopping plaza. It’s also right next to the gate where all tour buses drop off returning cruise passengers. It is the closest retail location to the “ski lift” and pathway to the beach front area and restaurants, ensuring that nearly everyone who gets off the cruise ships will see or walk by the store. Mahogany Bay is home to Del Sol, Piraña Joe, Diamonds International, Effy Jewelers, Fat Tuesday and many other souvenir shops.
“Cariloha sets a new standard for retail in Roatan,” said Tyler Rhodes, Cariloha Regional Sales Director. “The store’s look, feel, and products are arguably the most attractive on the island. Hopefully, they will motivate other retailers to improve their image and create a better shopping experience for all visitors to this port.”
Rhodes added that the local clientele is already enjoying the store and the soft bamboo products. The Cariloha store is staffed with local employees who are excited to be involved in selling eco-friendly bamboo products and anxious to get bamboo bed sheets of their own.
All Cariloha guests receive a free bamboo lei (necklace) just for stopping by the store, which helps proliferate the bamboo, eco-friendly attitude even more. Cariloha staffers encourage visitors to touch and feel the bamboo-soft difference of their shirts, bed sheets, towels, and hand bags for themselves.
Bamboo apparel, bedding and bath goods feature several qualities that make it a superior fabric. It’s twice as soft to touch as cotton and keeps you a few degrees cooler. It’s naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic and helps prevent skin odor and skin irritation.
