One of our Cariloha customers recently submitted this incredible review to share his gratitude and passion for Cariloha Bamboo Bedding. It may well be one of the most though-out, passionate reviews Cariloha has received to date. You be the judge. Read on and enjoy…
If I’m going to be honest, I need to start by letting people know I am very picky, difficult to please, often have high expectations, and frequently get frustrated with products and services.
I mean seriously, $239 for a set of sheets, and $279 for a comforter? I’m sorry, a “Duvet” comforter…
But, as I get older, I find beds are getting less comfortable and sleep more difficult. When I was a younger man, I served in the Navy. I could sleep anywhere, anytime. A steel cruise box (think trunk or metal tote box) made a good place to sleep, and the 3″ thick mattress I slept on in my rack…luxury! The sheets had a thread count of about 1, and the wool blankets may have been a little scratchy, but they were warm. Now, there are sleep-number beds, memory foam mattresses, hybrid coil/foam mattresses. Just about any kind of mattress you can think of. And they aren’t 3 inches thick either. My current mattress is 14 inches deep. Not the box springs and mattress, just the mattress!
So, why do I sleep like crap nowadays? The sheets pill. They scratch. They aren’t soft and comfortable until they have been washed so many times that they are nearly threadbare. I search out high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets. I pay good money for them too. Nope, not much better than the $20 mainstays set from Wal-Mart. And I don’t even want to get into comforters, but I will. They are too thin, too thick, too hot, too cold, don’t breathe, don’t cover the bed properly or hang down the sides far enough.
How can I justify spending this much on sheets made from a member of the grass family? And, the duvet! Wowza! We’re talking over $500 for sheets and a blanket. Who in their right mind, except maybe for celebrities, captains of industry, and heads of states, would spend that kind of money on bedding? The answer – THIS GUY! Did I mention that as I get older, beds and bedding don’t seem comfortable anymore? So, I went for it. I bit the bullet. I pulled the trigger. I took the leap. I spent the equivalent of my first house’s monthly mortgage payment on some sheets and a blanket.
After much anticipation, they arrived. The sheets were washed, the duvet (dry clean only) was hung up to air out. Sunday came. Sheet changing day! The anticipation was killing me. Six PM, I asked my wife if we could go to bed early tonight. She thought I meant 9 or so. Nope. I wanted to go to bed right then and try out my new bamboo sheets and duvet. She wasn’t having it.
Finally, 10 PM came. I raced upstairs, brushed my teeth, opted not to put on pajamas (Skivvies only. I wanted to feel those sheets against my skin!), and crawled under the covers.
How do I explain the experience? Are there words capable of describing the feeling? I don’t know, but I’m going to try.
It was like slipping into a pool of liquid silk. So exceptionally soft! Did I just crawl into the middle of a cool, fluffy cloud? Is this what heaven feels like? And the comforter! How do you describe perfection? Perfect thickness. Perfect weight. Perfect feel. Not too hot. Not too cold. Just perfection. Pure perfection.
As I mentioned, our mattress is 14 inches deep. The fitted sheet fit over it easily. It appears the mattress could be another 4 inches deep, and the sheets would still fit properly. Many comforter manufacturers seem to try to save pennies by shortening and narrowing the comforters a few inches. When they do this, the comforter isn’t long enough to fold down at the top, and often doesn’t cover the entire mattress on the sides. We’ve often bought King size comforters for our Queen size bed, because the queen size didn’t cover it properly. Well, that’s not an issue with these comforters! The queen size comforter I purchased completely covered the mattress sides, and then some. It is long enough that I can do the fancy fold down up top that my wife loves.
Last night, I fell asleep more quickly than I have in a long time. I slept like the proverbial rock. I remained cool and comfortable all night long, enjoying a deep sleep that we all wish for. I woke up rested and refreshed, on a Monday morning!
So there you have it. I’m no head of state, captain of industry, or a celebrity. I’m not wealthy. But I am now one of those people who will spend over $500 for a bedding set. Do you know why? Because it’s worth it!
I can’t wait to go back to bed again tonight!
