Helena runner comes home before 3,000 mile run
HELENA, Ala. (WIAT) – Ultra Runner and Helena native, Landon Cooper was in town on January 31, 2013 for a fundraiser at Shelby’s Pub in Pelham.
Family, friends and supporters enjoyed live music and a silent auction to support Cooper as he approaches the start of a 3,000 miles run.
On February 14, 2013 Cooper will head to the starting line, in Ocean Beach, San Francisco. He’ll run about 21 miles a day in order to reach Ocean City, Maryland by July 4th. Landon will average 21 miles a day for 150 days in order to complete the run on schedule.
He’s running in honor of Ashley Davis, a friend who passed away on April 6, 2011 at the age of 23, from Ewing Sarcoma.
Through his non-profit “Miles2Give,” Landon hopes to raise to at least $100,000, which will be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
The coast to coast tour is called “The Pursuit to Give & Inspire.”
Landon says he will run for 150 days straight because, “those who are battling cancer aren’t able to check in and check out when the battle becomes tough, it’s a constant struggle.”
