We’re thrilled to be named as Home Reviewed’s number-one brand for the Best Bamboo Sheets of 2017! Find out why Cariloha Bamboo Sheets are number one right here:
Shopping for the best bamboo sheets is much more complicated than one may think.
You need to understand a bit about how the bamboo is used in fabrics and what to look for on the packaging as you shop before you spend your money.
Not so familiar with bamboo or the manufacturing process? Our detailed guide will give you a brief overview of the most important things you need to know when shopping for sheets. We’ve narrowed down the choices to the top ten products and will follow up with detailed reviews of the three sheet sets that are worth the purchase.
What is Bamboo Textile and How is It Made?
Bamboo fabric is huge in the “all natural” fabric world. You see it used most often in baby diapers and is also a popular clothing textile.
Before we selected our list of the best bamboo sheets, we wanted to make sure that we had a firm understanding how it is made and how manufacturers use it. Understand this, and you’ll know what to look for on the packaging labels as you shop.
What Is It? The first thing you need to know is that manufacturer’s label their products as either viscose bamboo sheets or rayon bamboo sheets.
Viscose is made from regenerated wood cellulose, and in this case, the “wood” originates from bamboo stocks. Rayon is made pretty much in the same way, so when you see “100% viscose from bamboo” on the label, don’t be surprised.
How Is It Made? In a nutshell, bamboo stocks are basically crushed into a mush so that their natural fibers can be harvested and spun into yarn.
When produced mechanically, the mush is allowed to sit in the plant’s natural enzymes until it breaks down the wood and reveals the fibers; this is the natural way.
By chemical processing of bamboo, the plant is steamed and then sits in a bath of sodium hydroxide to help dissolve the woody parts of the plant. Next, it gets an acid bath to neutralize the lye and then can be spun into yarn.
Thread Count
Sheets with a thread count of around 400are great because many of the manufacturers that claim 1,500 and 1,800 thread count are doing so because they have wrapped two or three plies of thread together to make one thick one. It allows them to label their product with a higher thread count that the consumer thinks means higher quality.
It’s a sneaky trick of the trade, so we suggest that you stick to around 400.
Top 3 Best Bamboo Sheets Reviews
1. Cariloha Classic Bamboo Sheets
Thread Count. 230
Cariloha makes some of the best bamboo sheets on the market. Just ask Forbes, Where Magazine and Fox!
The key to their success is the soft twill weave that they have used, which is referring to the way that they have woven the fibers together. We liked that the thread count wasn’t as high because it lets us know that they haven’t twisted the fibers together to be able to claim a higher number (which would make people think that the quality is higher). The quality is high because they have manufactured their product well.
Each set comes with a deep fitted sheet (wide enough to fit up to an 18-inch mattress, one flat sheet, and two pillowcases.
Believe all of the hype around this product because it is truly worth the investment.
